Found in The State 7 October 1956: Vernon Roy Porter, 53, yard conductor for the Seaboard Railroad for the past 31 years, died yesterday morning at his home, 430 "N" Ave., Cayce, following a sudden illness. Mr. Porter, who worked Friday night, returned to his home at 7 o'clock yesterday morning, where he died at 8:30. A native of Seneca, Mr. Porter had lived in Cayce for 40 years. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Sinclair Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, No. 794. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Frank H. Lucas, Jr.; one niece, Sandra Jean Lucas; and one nephew, Frank H. Lucas, III, all of Cayce.
