Anna married Joe Barbaglia of Mystic, Iowa, on Jan. 8, 1949, at St. Mary's Cathloic Church in Centerville. They farmed together and ran an implement business for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cincinnati and St. Francis Catholic Church in Mystic until their closure and then joined St. Mary's in Centerville, where she was a member and actively participated in the Croatian Choir and St. Mary's Annual Croatian Festival for many years.
She was an iaugural member of the Bellaire Progressive Women's Club, 18-80 Club and St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered. She was a fixture on Friday afternoons playing BINGO with patients at the Long Term Care Facility at the St.Joseph's Mercy Medical Center. Anna enjoyed crocheting, sewing and baking for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed making breads and cinnamon rolls, which her family enjoyed almost every Sunday morning. Friends and family will also remember her for her ability to made delicious gnocchi. A life longer gardener, Anna enjoyed entering flowers, produce, fruit, preserves and canned goods in Appanoose County Fair, where she received numerous Grand Champion and Honorable Mention ribbons.
She loved life, her children and enjoyed traveling. She visited much of Europe, South America, several Canadian provinces and visited all 50 states, Accompanied by her family and husband, who loved to drive. Anna viewed the country throught the windshields of various automobiles, airplanes, trains, and boats. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents Andrew and Mary, brother, Andrew Kauzlarich, her sister Helen Bubenyak, and son-in-law Dennis Bond.
Surviving to honor her memory are her children: Mary Ann Bond of Centerville, Iowa, Nancy Barbaglia of Mentor, Ohio, Joseph Carl(Connie)Barbaglia of Ames, Iowa, and Jean Barbaglia(Gary)Wenisch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Brian Bond of Baxter, Iowa, Carrie Bond of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Bradley Bond of Story City, Iowa, Leslie Markowitz of Pittsburg, PA., Jeremy Markowitz of Cleveland, Ohio, Michael and Kathryn Barbaglia of Ames, Iowa, and Claire and Grace Wenisch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and one great-grandchild, Berkley Bond of Baxter, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. William Hubman officiating. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery north of Mystic, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 2-8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home and a Wake service at 7 pm.
The family would like to give a special thank you for the loving care provided to Anna by HCI Hospice. The Continental at St. Joseph, Mercy Hospital's Long Term Care and Dr. Kathleen Lange. Memorials can be made to either St. Mary's Catholic Church or Mercy Hospital Auxillary.
