Obituary from the Crawford County Democrat Thursday January 27, 1938

BOGARD---John W. Sturgeon, son of Nace and Sereptia Sturgeon, was born September 25, 1856 and died January 24, 1938, at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 29 days.

He married Mary E. Goodson in 1881. To this union seven children were born. His wife, two children, Charley Sturgeon and Mrs. George Jones, preceded him. He leaves five children, Mrs. Richard Hawkins, and Arnold Sturgeon of Coquill, Ore., Doris Sturgeon of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Lola Hanover, of Alton, Ill., and Mrs. Steve Jones, of English; three brothers, Charley of Grayville, Ill., Nace of New Harmony, and Will of Isbell, and one sister, Elnora, of Illinois; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Mt. Sterling church by the Rev. G.R. Bateman of English. Burial was in the Mt. Sterling cemetery.
