DEATH OF MRS. VIRGINIA C. BAY
Mrs. Virginia Cordell Bay, beloved and respected by all who knew her, passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sadie Bay McClelland, in this city, at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon aged 77 years.
Mrs. Bay was born in Loudoun county, Virginia, February 14, 1823, and was the eleventh child of Pressier and Amelia Cordell; came to Missouri in 1834, and settled in St. Louis county; was married April 14, 1840 to Samuel Mansfield Bay, the attorney general of Missouri. She was the mother of five children, and after her husband's death, which occurred in 1849, she lived for many years in Jefferson City and St. Louis. She has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sadie Bay McClelland, since the latter's marriage.
The funeral services were held from Christ church (Episcopal) yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.K. Dunn, of Kansas City.
A good and noble woman has laid down the cares and sorrows of life, and many there are who will tenderly cherish the memory of her kind, gentle character.
