He married Caroline J. Hart, 3 Aug 1845, Cole County, Missouri. They and their first three children are recorded there on the 1850 census.
By time of the 1860 census he had brought his family to Pleasant Hill in Cass County and had establishes a business.
In 1861 came the Civil War and in 1863 order # 11. Using a railroad shipping crate he created a cart. The families clothing and provisions were loaded in. He and the children pulled this cart to Lexington. Here they boarded a riverboat and went to Jefferson city, where they would existed until the end of the war.
They returned to Pleasant Hill where they spent the rest of their days.
