Obituary:
Coach Warren "Abe" Hutto, 91, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at his residence in Clara. Mr. Hutto, a twin son of the late William L. Hutto and the late Allie Trigg Hutto, was born March 24, 1921 in Clara, where he grew up with the nickname "Abe". He attended elementary school in Clara. He received his high school education at the Wayne County Agricultural High School in Clara. After graduation, Warren entered the Navy, serving thirty-nine months during World War II. On returning home from the Navy, he enrolled at Jones County Junior College for one year before transferring to Mississippi Southern College where he received a B. S. degree. Warren began his teaching career, Jan. 1950 at Clara, then named Clara Special Consolidated High School. There he stayed until requirement in May, 1983. In 1950- 51, Warren served as assistant cocach. In 1951-52, he coached it all- football, boys' and girls' basketball, and track. A charter member of MAC, he was successful in his coaching career. Warren coached girls' teams in track and basketball for his final eight years of his coaching duties. He captured several conference titles, two district and South State Championships in his division. He was the receipient of numerous coach-of-the-year awards at the local, conference and district level. He was chosen as the assistant All-Star Coach of the South's Girls in the All-Star game in 1976. All his athletic teams' records are not available. His girls' teams played a total of 596 games. During the last eight years, his teams compiled a record of 235 wins and 69 losses. He had players named All-South, All-State and All-Star. He had players to play college basketball. A real asset to his community, Coach Warren "Abe" Hutto served his school with dignity; showed respect for the games he played; and, was concerned for the character and morals of his teams. He was a member of Clara United Methodist Church. Mr. Hutto is preceded in death by his parents, William L. Hutto and Allie Trigg Hutto; 5 brothers, Hallie Hutto, Boo Hutto, Marvin Hutto, Woodrow W. "Buck" Hutto (twin brother), and Craig Hutto; 5 sisters, Zattie Graham, Zora Moseley, Zela Deluca, Zimmie Boutwell, and Zelleen Ross. Mr. Hutto is survived by his wife, Neola Hutto of Clara; 3 sons, Warren E. "Abe" Hutto (Patsy) of Waynesboro, Davis Ray Hutto (Becky) of Long Beach and Eddy H. Hutto (Stacy) of Clara; 2 daughters, Deborah Ward (Rodney) and Delaine Beard (Bo), both of Clara; 15 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Hutto will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, September 20, 2012 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro with Rev. Jesse Long and Rev. Curtis Cain officiating. Interment will be in White House Cemetery in Clara.
