Mrs. Vera Mae Rippey Combs, age 94, of Fancy Gap, Virginia, passed away Wednesday morning, April 23, 2020 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center, Galax, Virginia. Mrs. Combs was born on January 30, 1926 in Carroll County to the late Troy Calvin Rippey and Ada Leona Lowe Rippey. Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be sorely missed, especially by her loving church family. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Dewey Felts; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and Janet Combs, and Clinton and Brenda Combs; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Combs; brother, Charlie and Geraldine Rippey; many nieces and nephews; two special friends, Mary Lou and Jeanette. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by her husband of many years Dorsie William Combs; sisters, Edith Burcham, Pauline Hawks, Ethel Hanks, Lura McCraw, Ruth O’Dell and Betty Jewel Rippey; and brothers, Ernest Lester Rippey, Dallas Rippey, Arlos Rippey, Chug Rippey, James Ulysses Rippey, and Lloyd Rippey. Due to the limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a private graveside service will be held at Susie Hawks Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Marion officiating. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Combs family.
