Dorothy Avera Ahouse: Teacher and Medical Secretary AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Dorothy Avera Ahouse, 88, formerly of Augusta died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at Statesville, N.C. She was born October 29, 1915, in Jefferson County, and was the daughter of the late William Oscar Avera and Georgia Elizabeth Killebrew Avera. She was a graduate of Wrens High School in Georgia, and Teachers College, San Antonio, Texas. She was married to Franklin Bernard Ahouse Sr., who died in 1974. Mrs. Ahouse was a former school teacher and was retired as a medical secretary with the Medical College of Georgia. She is survived by one son, Franklin Bernard Ahouse Jr. (Katherine), Albany; one daughter, Catherine Ahouse Marshall, Statesville, N.C.; four grandchildren, William Brian Murphy (Amy), Mooresville, N.C., Franklin Curry Ahouse (Jenny), Macon, Laura Lackey (Robert) New Castle, Delaware, and Katherine Ahouse Cartwright (Rob), Augusta; one great-grandson, Jordan Preston Lackey, New Castle, Delaware; and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Grace Cartwright, Augusta. A son, William Curry Ahouse, lost his life in Vietnam in 1968, and she was also preceded in death by two brothers, James E. Avera and William C. Avera; and one sister, Annie Sarah Avera. Graveside funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 9, 2004, at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta with Rev. Robert Fain officiating. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, Georgia 30904, or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 801 Henkel Road, Statesville, N.C. 28677.
