Floyd H. Turner, a deeply loved and respected husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend joined our Lord on Sept. 9, 2012, at his home in Sierra Vista.

Floyd was born on Jan. 27, 1920, in Morrison, Tenn., to Isaac and Pearl Turner. In July of 1940 Floyd enlisted in the Navy and was sent to boot camp in Norfolk, Va. After boot camp he was assigned to the USS St. Louis, a light cruiser, and went on a shake-down cruise of the islands in the Pacific. As a gunner on that ship, he participated in several missions after going from the Atlantic to the Pacific via the Panama Canal. The USS St. Louis arrived in Pearl Harbor just before the attacks on Pearl Harbor started and was the first ship to get out of the harbor and out to sea.

Floyd received a medical retirement from the Navy and returned home to Tennessee where he married Judy Edwards on Dec. 6, 1952. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before she passed on Feb. 1, 2003.

Floyd is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tammi Edwards; brothers, J.T. and Earl Turner; sisters, Ethel Renfro and Mable Cotton; parents, Isaac and Pearl Turner.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Edwards (Gail); great grandson, Todd Edwards; nephew, Jimmy Renfro (Joyce); and many nieces and nephews living in Tennessee.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at the Church of Christ in J-6 Estates. Interment will follow at Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred in memory of Floyd to J-6 Church of Christ, J-6 Ranchettes, 552 J-Six Ranch Road, Benson, AZ 85602
