At the end of the Civil War, Hadley was in Kansas where he organized and became president of the National Bank of Lawrence. While in Kansas he worked as a newspaper reporter, city council member and was mayor for two and a half terms. He moved to California in 1889 and settled in Whitter and by 1894 he was working at the Bank of Whitter. He later became president of the First National Bank of Whittier. Hadley was married to Naomi Henley of Indiana, a devout Quaker, and the union produced eleven children.
