George E Hoover Long Beach auto Dealer Dies-
George E Hoover, 66, veteran Long Beach automobile dealer, died yesterday at his home in Westwood, Los Angeles.
A native of Spiceland, Indiana he came west as a young man and located in Pasadena where he attended Throop Memorial College. After leaving school, he worked as a telegraph operator for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
In 1915 he opened a used car lot in Pasadena entering the business that was to be his lifelong career. He sold used cars for two years and then entered the employ of the Albertson Motors Dodge auto agency in Los Angeles as manager of their used car department. In 1921 he joined the firm of Fay Security as treasurer and manager in the Los Angeles office. He was with them until coming to Long Beach in 1930 and buying out the Spencer Kennelly Chevrolet agency at Sixth St and American Ave.
He was a devotee of deep sea fishing and belonged to the Southern California Tuna Club and with fellow car dealers C Standlee Martin, Art Hall, and R O Gould made some record catches. He also belonged to the Pacific Coast Club.
Surviving are the widow Iza who is a vice president and secretary of the George E Hoover, Inc.; their daughter Mrs Alton C Chick Jr of Los Angeles also a director of the firm; and a sister, Mrs Geoffrey Moore of Pasadena.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 pm in the chapel of Turner Stevens Co 95 N Marengo Ave Pasadena. Interment to be in Mountain View Cemetery, Altadena.
