Carl Bernell "Bob" Hanson, 66 of Phoenix, a retired auto mechanic and maintenance foreman, died October 18, 1993 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Bob was born on October 29, 1926 in Douglas, North Dakota to Joy A. and Lillian Larson Hanson. He was educated in the Douglas public school. On April 24, 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He went through basic training in South Carolina, but became ill while on the troop train taking him to California to "ship out." He was sent to the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Colorado to recover. While there, he met his future wife,
Susie "Sue" Bales, who was visiting the Army hospital with a Denver USO group in the fall of 1945. On May 7, 1946 Bob and Sue drove to St. Francis, Kansas to get married.

After Bob was discharged from the army later in 1946, the couple continued to live in Denver where their 3 children, Sharon, Lillian, and Robert were born. In the spring of 1960 the family moved to Glendale, Arizona (in the Phoenix area) where the family enjoyed the warm, dry climate, and Bob loved to play golf. In 1977 Bob and Sue moved to Yuma, Arizona where Bob had accepted a job at the Marine Corp Air Station to be in charge of the motor pool. When Bob retired in 1988, they moved back to Glendale.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and siblings Maysil and Dale Hanson. Survivors include his wife, Sue; daughters, Sharon Cookman and Lillian Stratmann; son, Robert Lee Hanson and daughter-in-law Madeline (Shelly) Hanson; four sisters; five brothers; five grandchildren; Eric Cookman, Paul Cookman, Holly Hanson, Joy Hanson and Heather Hanson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were Saturday October 23 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Glendale. Interment was at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Arizona. Pallbearers included James Hanson, Tom Williams, Vaughn Pelzer, and John Gullet Sr. Contributions: Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Fairfax Road at Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103-4399.
