Morgan was a Private in Company C in the 6th Texas Cavalry (Wharton, Stone's).

Dallas County Pioneer Association Newsletter, Winter, 2000, Page 5: ". . . Morgan [Cockrell] (1841-186?) was a veteran of the War Between the States. He had been a prisoner for several months and told of being offered only bread and water. Morgan returned from the war in a weakened condition and died soon after. He had married Berilla K. Phillips in 1866."
