Tribute to Maj. Robert McBryde from the sessional records of Ebenezer ARP Church at Cotton Plant (Old Tippah Co., now Union Co.)

"The congregation was called to mourn the loss of a valuable and venerable elder, Major Robert McBryde, the father of Ebenezer congregation. This devotedly good and pious man was a native of Cedar Springs, Abbeville District,SC and was a son of Hugh and Martha McBryde. He grew up under the ministry of Rev. Alexander Porter. Having migrated to Wilcox Co., AL and settled in the bounds of Lebanon, he was elected ruling Elder in that congregation and was ordained by the Rev. Dr. Pressly to that office in 1832. He came to this neighborhood in 1839. Here after mamy years of most faithful and energetic labor in the Master's vineyard, full of years and good works,he quietly fell asleep in Jesus on the 29th day of January 1869, beloved and mourned by the entire congregation which his piety, zeal, liberality, and diligence had done so much to establish and build up. His name among them is yet as an ointment poured forth."
