Paul Schwindt Drowns Tuesday. Lloyd Ellas, McCracken, fractures neck while Swimming Sunday.
A tragic accident took place early Tuesday afternoon when Paul Schwindt, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Schwindt was drowned. Paul together with his brother, Elton, were swimming in the Walnut east of Rush Center. Paul was caught in deep water where a strong undercurrent kept him from swimming to shore. Bryce attemped to rescue when it became apparent that Paul couldn't swim in. Elton ran to Rush Center for aid while Bryce made several attempts to save him. Paul fought his rescuer until Bryce's strength was exhausted.
Chandler Redicel, Fred Popp and Mr. Oglesbee returned with Elton after placing an emergency call with Dr. Baker. The men from Rush Center pulled the body from the water and immediately began resuscitation exercises. However, the victim had been under water for more than half an hour and nothing could be done.
Honor Roll Student, Paul was a popular member of the LaCrosse eighth grade class of 1935. He was an honor roll student.
Paul's Wichita Eagle and Hutchinson Newspaper customers always found him courteous and dependable and enjoyed business contacts with him.
Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock this morning at the Farwell Home, with the Rev. A. L. Bandstetter in charge.
