Candido Garcia, Jr.
1930 ~ 2012
A friend to all, Candido Garcia passed away on Sept 7, 2012 in Provo, Utah. He was born on Oct 5, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Candido and Refugio Amador Garcia. He married Dora Case and together they raised their family in Salt Lake City. To his family he was known as "Cansoup" and to others as Frank. To his sister Carola, he was "Brothers." To his children he was Pops, Dad, and Daddy. Dad was proud of the fact that he came from the West Side. He attended Franklin Elementary and Jordan Jr. High School. Armed with an 8th grade education, he learned to be a master craftsman in carpentry. If Dad could imagine it, he could build it. Dad joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an active missionary until the day of his death. He was not ashamed to "own his Lord". He was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to his sweetheart Dora and to his children. Dad served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake, St. George, Vernal, and Manti temples. He and Mom served a mission at Cove Fort shortly after it was opened. He served in many church callings and believed in doing his best. Being bilingual, he used his skills to preach and teach wherever he went. He would often speak in both English and Spanish at the same time! He said every person you meet has a story to tell and a lesson to teach. He was a friend to all and enjoyed talking to people wherever he found them. He loved his animals and always had a dog. He fed every stray cat and dog that came to his door. Most of all, Dad loved his family. He is the father of four children, Debra, Karen, Milo, and Angela. He added another daughter, Alicia, and two more sons, Mike, and Shawn, the spouses of his children, to his family. He adored his grandchildren and had a relationship that was special and unique to each one. He was so proud of them and delighted in his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Dora, his daughter Debra, and his brother Roberto Lopez. Family and friends are welcome to attend a closed casket gathering at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr, Salt Lake City, on Tuesday, September 11 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 12 at 11am at the same location followed by the interment. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15 at the LDS chapel in Sterling, Utah at Noon. The family would like to thank all the friends, neighbors, Ward and Branch members, and care providers who provided friendship, laughter, and love.
