Son of Thomas Jefferson Colwell and Lou Prissy Roberts. There were 13 half brothers and sisters: Jim Worley, Will, Carter, Pete, Jack, Harriet, Pearl, Juline, Ellie, Steve, George, Arthur and Billy.

Married Fannie Eatmon on Sept. 11, 1910.

Came to Wellington in 1914, his wife and daughter (Myrtle) arriving in Feb 1915.

Parents of Myrtle (Sigward), Roy, Woodrow Pershing, Arthur, Leona (Kough), Thomas Jefferson, twins Frank & Frances (Howsden), and another set of twins, Don and Dale died when they were only 10 and 11 days old from the measles.

Lum worked for Continental Oil Company for 21 years and 8 months before he retired at age 65.
