Memorial services for Lynn Williams Estrada, 20, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Fairwood Methodist church in Renton.
Mrs. Estrada of Renton was an apprentice jockey who was injured fatally in a horse-racing accident at Exhibition Park in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Aug. 27. She died Monday in a Vancouver hospital.
Born May 4, 1964, in Denver, Colo., she lived in Denver and in Chicago prior to coming to the Fairwood area of Renton in 1972. She participated on Cascade Vista Athletic Club softball teams and on Cascade soccer club teams for many years.
She attended Fairwood Elementary School and Meeker Junior High School in the Kent School District. Her love of horses led to work at Longacres Race Track as a pony girl, groom and exercise rider. Despite her schedule, she graduated with honors in the top 10 percent of her Kentridge High School graduating class.
Following graduation, she continued as an exercise rider working at a number of West Coast tracks including Longacres, Santa Anita, Del Mar and Hollywood Park. She began her racing career at Longacres and recently began racing at Exhibition Park where she rode her first winner on Aug. 11. At the time of her death, she had posted four wins. Also 5 seconds and 4 thirds.
In 1983, she married Journeyman jockey Jorge Estrada and the couple pursued their racing careers together.
She attended Fairwood Methodist Church and had participated in many youth activities.
Survivors include her husband Jorge Estrada of Phoenix, Ariz.; her mother, Billie Williams of Renton; her father, Barrett Williams of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Eric Williams of Renton; and her grandmothers, Winifred Andrew and Esther Williams.
Private burial will be Friday at 11 a.m.60
