Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Parmeter passed away Thursday (Sept 6, 2012) at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Surviving is her husband, Charles "Burton" Parmeter; two sons, Charles Parmeter Jr. and his companion Sandra Ferguson-Hitsman of Lisbon, and Scott Parmeter and his husband Jack McIntosh of Ogdensburg; a daughter, Desiree Fisher of Potsdam; a brother, Richard Hunter and his wife Shirley of Canton; two sisters, Sandra Roberts and her husband Steve of Watertown and Cheryl Law and her husband Edward of Edwards; grandchildren Kasandra McIntosh and Leya Thomas; great-grandson Kegan Thomas; an aunt, Nellie LaClair, of Canton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Kurt Backus, predeceased her.
Linda was born on October 17, 1945 in Ellisburg, a daughter of Inez Backus and step-father Lyle Radigan.
She graduated from Madrid-Waddington School and married Charles "Burton" Parmeter on August 31, 1963 at the Lisbon Wesleyan Church parsonage.
She worked for eight months at Mater Dei College in the kitchen, and then in 1979 she transferred employment to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department where she worked as a matron aid until her retirement in 2007.
She was a past member of the Morley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and an active member of the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge where she held the title of Past Sr. Regent and also held a number of chaired positions. Linda enjoyed being a mother and wife, playing bingo and slots, reading, traveling and her flower gardens.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Richard Winter Cancer Center or the American Heart Association.
