Published in the Alton Telegraph Newspaper, Alton, Madison Co, IL, Feb 11, 1967: Funeral services for Lela Lorene Cole, 50, of Rte. 1, Moro, who was fatally injured Friday when struck by a panel truck on Rte. 140 at Meadowbrook, will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Smith Funeral Home, Bethalto. The Rev. Clinton Woodin, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, Meadowbrook, will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. will be after 2 p.m. Sunday. M

Mrs. Cole died at 7:55 p.m. in Wood River Township Hospital. The accident occurred when she was enroute home after having taken a daughter Hilda, and a granddaughter to a banquet at the First Southern Baptist Church in Meadowbrook, and she got out of her car after it had stalled on the highway.

A resident of Alton area for 50 years, Mrs. Cole came here from Kentucky. She was born May 31, 1916, in Hickman County, Ky., daughter of the late Henry Crane and Mrs. Lovie Crane Burgess. While living in Kentucky she was affiliated with the Baptist Church, and was married June 5, 1933, at Columbus, Ky., to Boyd Charles Cole.

Her husband and her mother, Mrs. Lovie Crane Burgess of Silvis survive. She also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Pansy Ozee, Elizabethtown and Mrs. Hilda Cole, Rte. 1, Moro; a son, Bobby Boyd Cole, Meadowbrook; three brothers, Henry Crane Jr., Jimmy Ray and Jesse Ray Burgess, Silvis, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Nora Pence, Portland, Ore..

A daughter, Mrs. Betty Murphy, and a brother preceded her in death.
