The obituary of William "Willie" J. Caudill as published in the December 28, 1944, issue of The Mountain Eagle:

Willie J. Caudill

Willie J. Caudill died at the home of his son, Larry J. Caudill, 1420 Audubon Parkway, Louisville, Ky., last Wednesday morning after an illness of nine months. He has been in the home of his son, Dr. Fred W. Caudill, State Epidemiologist, Louisville, Ky., until about two weeks before his death when he became critically ill with a throat infection.

Mr. Caudill was born Feb. 21, 1880, was the son of W. J. and Martha Whitaker Caudill. He married Hettie Cornett, daughter of Arch and Martha Combs Cornett, May 5, 1898. To this union was born three sons: Dr. Fred W., Larry J. of Louisville, and Archie of Williamsburg. Two daughters: Helen of Paintsville, and Marie at home.

Mr. Caudill was a retired contractor and builder and had spent many years in lumber and building business. Several years ago he became a member of the Doermann Memorial Presbyterian Church and since that time had been a very active member. Mr. Caudill was one of Blackey's best known citizens, ever ready to lend a helping hand and always ready to work for the betterment of the community.

Other survivors are his wife: Mrs. Hettie Caudill, three foster children: L. V. Caudill, Beckley, W. Va., Mrs. W. J. Newland of Flint, Michigan, Miss Harriett Caudill of Beckley, W. Va. Five sisters: Mrs. Kelly Stamper, Roxana, Mrs. Callie Back, Mrs. T. A. Dixon both of Blackey, Mrs. Ella Loggins of Kingsprrt Tenn., and Mrs. R. L. Andrews of Chicasha, Okla. Three brothers: R. B. and C. B. of Blackey and Jim of Grundy, Va., and fifteen grandchildren.

Last Thursday he was brought from Louisville to Blackey. Funeral services were held Friday at 11:00 o'clock in the Doermann Memorial Presbyterian Church Blackey by Rev. W. L. Cooper and Elder Tip Cornett. Burial in the Family Cemetery at Blackey by the Evans Funeral Home.
