ELSTAN B. HANKE, 79, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired machinist for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. and a member of St. Basil Catholic Church. Survivors: his wife, the former Edna Pate; sons, David J. Sr., Larry and E. Paul Hanke; daughters, Wanda Shelley, Mary Dale Gue, Judy Hutchins and Joyce Craig; a sister, Lucille Spears; a brother, Paul Hanke; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday, St. Denis Catholic Church, 4205 Cane Run Road. Burial: Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation: J. B. Ratterman's-Southwest, 4832 Cane Run Road, 2-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorial gifts: Mass of the Air.
