Funeral and Burial Saturday for the Spanish-American War Veteran
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Assembly of God church for James Overlease, a Spanlsh-American war veteran and long-time resident of Tarklo, who died Thursday of last week at a hospital in Rolla.
Rev. L. V. Coons conducted tho services and American Legion members conducted military rites at the burial at Home cemetery.
James Overlease wss born February 15, 1876 near Rolla. He was the only son of J. W. and Linda Brim Overlease.
On January 21, 1921 he was united in marriage to Dine Tabor and to this union two children were born, Lester Harold, who died In infancy, and Phyllis Overlease Hughes of Tarklo.
Mr. Overlease, or Jim as he was better known spent the last thirty-five years of his life in and around Tarkio, where he made many friends. A few days before his death, he had left Tarklo to visit a cousin in Rolla.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Hughes of Tarkio, one step-son, Clifford Burks, now with the U.S. Army overseas, and four grandchildren, Jimmie, Joe Hada, and Tommy Hughes.
American Legion members served as pallbearers..
