The Rev. James R. Pemble of the First United Methodist Church officiated at services at the Irene Barbara Lunde Memorial Chapel, Rowley Memorial Masonic Temple in Perry, at 2 p.m. Friday for Myrtle Murl Decker, 92. She died at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home on Wednesday, Jan. 8. [1997] Music was by Judy Ohrt. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Hastings Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of arrangements. Daughter of Harry Claude and Eliza Leota Meredith Riley, she was born on her parents farm south of Rippey on March 2, 1904. Myrtle graduated from Perry High School in 1922. She worked as a secretary at the Rippey school following graduation and then attended Gregg Commercial College in Chicago. She worked in the Nurses' Registry in Chicago, later returning to Iowa where she worked for the Dean of Men at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and later for Federal Life Insurance in Des Moines. She then started a 40-year career as bookkeeper for Vita Graph, later known as Warner Brothers Pictures Distribution. She married Orville Bechtel. He died in 1952 and she cared for his mother for 13 years. In September 1965, she married William Stanley Decker, and the couple continued to live in Des Moines. Following his death in 1988, she moved to the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home. She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. Memorials have been designated to the Rowley Memory Masonic Home and may be left at the funeral home. Preceding in death were her parents; her husbands; and four brothers, Murray, Coyle, Michael and Lysle Riley. Survivors include two stepsons, Wayne and Roy Decker, both of Des Moines; one stepdaughter, Patricia Decker Samosky of Clear Lake; eight step-grandchildren; 15 step-great grandchildren; four step-great-great grandchildren; one brother, Leo Riley and four sisters, Lois Howell, Hollis Stroud, Luella Brown and Joyce Maddy, all of Perry.
