Christopher Oppy, son of David and Elizabeth, was born November 25, 1816 in Adams County, Ohio and emigrated with his family to Montgomery County, Indiana. He was married in 1843 to Elizabeth Whitlatch, who died January 9, 1863, leaving three children: Noah W., George A. and Mary J. "Mollie."

Mr. Oppy was next married, November 12, 1863 to Margaret Wilson, whose death occurred February 21, 1879. She left four children by her first husband: James, John C. or "Jack," Thomas F. and Edward T.

Mr. Oppy's last marriage took place December 2, 1879 to Rachel Hoff, of Union township, Montgomery County.

Mr. Oppy received a start in life in agriculture from his father and improved upon this with further land purchases, at one time owning 1,612 acres of land and being listed as one of Coal Creek Township's principal land owners. Each of his children eventually received a farm varying from 107 to 180 acres, according to the value of the land.

In the fall of 1880, having labored sufficiently, he moved to Crawfordsville to retire but, missing the farm life, moved to the rural area just west of Crawfordsville where he lived the remainder of his life. Christopher lived for 74 years, 6 months and 26 days. He died from a long illness that started with a "rat-bite."
