Arbie Woodrow Allen, 98, of Ashland, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, in Boyd County.
He was born February 14, 1914, in Oldtown in Greenup County, to the late Russell and Nora Allen.
He served as a Major in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Lieutenant and he was a Captain with the Kentucky National Guard, part of the greatest generation serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Lucille Gates Allen, sisters, Lotus Hickman and Phyllis Triplett, and brothers, Joe, Truman, James and Elliott "Eck" Allen.
He is survived by one son, Donald R. and Patty Allen of Lexington, two daughters, Jacqueline and Robert L. Coburn of Ashland, and Linda and Donald Fennell of Vero Beach, Fla., six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, 180 Eastpark Drive, Grayson, KY. 41143. Military services by Ceredo-Kenova American Legion Post 93.
