B. T. Allen, Esquire

The late Benjamin Tuthill Allen, Esq., solicitor of Burnham, Somerset, who died on the 28th in the sixty-second year of his age, was born in Burnham in 1816, and was admitted admitted a solicitor in Michaelmas Term 1839.

From that period until within the last few years he conducted a good and varied practice in his native place, having been for many years clerk to the justices, while he also held the post of Clerk to the Wedmore Turnpike Trust, and Clerk to the Wells and Highbridge Turnpike Trust.

For more than twenty years he was the honorary secretary to the Highbridge Market Company. Mr. Allen was the original promoter, and for many years the captain, of the Burnham, or 4th Somerset Ride Volunteers; and he was also for many years well known for the prominent part he always took in all local matters of interest.

The deceased gentleman, who was married and has left a family, was highly esteemed and beloved by all who knew him, and his funeral was attended by a large concourse of people.
