Mary Lee Rumley Day, of Rockford, was given peace by Our Father in Heaven on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Asbury Place. A resilient woman, Mrs. Day was born November 12, 1922, and raised in the Ozarks until she moved to California as a child in a Model T Ford during the dust bowl. Her life was a full one of many travels and experiences. After traveling to all four corners of the United States with her husband, who was an Officer of the Navy, they settled in the mountains of her forefathers. Mrs. Day was an enthusiastic volunteer, helping others in years past, including the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA, and Habitat for Humanity. She will join her husband, Carlos W. Day; son, Edward A. Day; sister, RoseMarie and brother-in-law, Pete Pelucca; parents, Albert and Pearl (Jones) Rumley; grandchild, Jennifer Peery; and the many that have been a part of her life. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Dexter Scott Peery; grandchildren, Rose C. Peery Sawyer and husband, John D. Sawyer; Susan M. Peery; Emily A. Peery, and Andrew S. Peery; great-grandson, Jennings Day Peery Sawyer. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Grandview Cemetery, 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, with the Rev. Doug Armstrong officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity or her church that she so loved, Logan's Chapel United Methodist. Online condolences may be sent to ([email protected]) Arrangements by Dotson Funeral Home, Wildwood, 984-5959.
