SUMTER--Billye C. Stell, a retired elementary school teacher, died in a Bishopville nursing home. The funeral will be at 11 am today at the Taxahaw Cemetery according to the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home. Mrs. Stell was born in Taxahaw, daughter of Crawford Cook and Matilda Massey Cook. She attended First Baptist Church in Sumter and was a member of Taxahaw Baptist. She was the widow of Jack Stell.
Surviving are two daughters, Jackueline S. Strange of Sumter and Ellen S. Nimmo of Hanahan, four sisters, Evelyn Jones of Charleston, Rebecca Horton of Loris, Dorothy Rufenacht of Pennsylvania, and Lucille Bell of Charlotte, and two grandchildren. from Post and Courier, Sat. 28 Aug. 1999
