Herschel was born and raised near Poolville, where he met and married his wife of 67 years. He served in the Navy during World War II and was employed by General Dynamics for 40 years, releasing airplanes for flight. After retirement he and his wife traveled extensively in their RV.
Survivors: Wife, Vaudine Dean; son, Eddie Dean and wife, Lorie; daughters, Beverly Williams and husband, Charlie, and Susan Kittrell and husband, Dwayne; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
