After several months of failing health, Mrs. Catherine Whitmore, widow of Solomon Whitmore, died at 5:30pm yesterday at the farm home of her oldest son, William Whitmore, near the Cream Valley cheese factory in North Gouverneur, aged 73 years.
Mrs. Whitmore was born at Prescott, Ont., her parents being Jacob and Catherine Wallace Walters. About 54 years ago she married Mr. Whitmore and they took up farming near Prescott and later in this section, which they followed until the death of Mr. Whitmore which occurred 19 years ago, since which time the widow had made her home with her son. She was a woman most highly esteemed by all who knew her and her death will be long mourned by her wide circle of friends. She is survived by five sons, William, George, Fred and John, all of Gouverneur, and Albert Whitmore of Emeryville, and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Rathburn of Richville and a sister, Miss Polly Waters who resides at the Whitmore home. The funeral services will be conducted from the late home at 1pm tomorrow by Rev. Mr. Culligan, pastor of the Richville and North Gouverneur Methodist churches and interment will be made in the Babcock cemetery, North Gouverneur.
