Gilbert Jerome's father was not Benjamin Jerome. He and his sister Jennie Gilbert Jerome were the children of Elizabeth Maude Jerome (as indicated on the memorial page) and Yan Phou Lee, a Chinese graduate of Yale. Lee and Jerome were married in 1887 and divorced in 1890, at which point she and the children assumed her maiden name. See https://asteria.fivecolleges.edu/findaids/mountholyoke/mshm136.html
