Afton Self Foley 1917 ~ 2007 Afton Self Foley, age 89 passed away peacefully surrounded by her children March 19, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born June 5, 1917 to William Anthony Self and Ada Andrew Self in Salt Lake City. Married William Leslie Foley June 13, 1943, in San Francisco, California; and later in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Afton was a strong and dedicated mother to her family. She always thought of the family first and was generous to all. She was adored by her husband Bill and they shared many wonderful memories together. Afton was a career woman and worked at many different places through her life. She met Bill while they worked together in the Remington Arms Plant making bullets for the soldiers of World War II. She also worked at the Murray Eagle Newspaper, The Paris Dept. Store, Z.C.M.I., and retired from Granite Furniture Company after many years. After retirement Afton and Bill traveled extensively throughout the U.S., to Hawaii, Europe, the Middle East and visited the Holy Land. Afton and Bill spent their final time together at the Federal Heights Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Bill passed away on Sept. 25, 2004. Their children would like to thank all those at Federal Heights for their care, compassion and love, especially Kay, Mercedes, Dina and all those who helped and supported mom. She was an incredibly strong and hard working individual and through her strength and dedication she inspired and taught her three children to be strong, honest and independent people. She is survived by her son William L. Foley Jr. (Joni); daughter, Sheila Walton (Rick); son Rick Foley (Cindy); six grandchildren; three (soon to be four) great-grand-children, sister Eva Smith who was always by her side, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Viewing will be held Thursday March 22nd, 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery 1950 East 10600 South.
