Henry Bidwell was the son of Harvey G. Bidwell and Helen Mary (Wilson) Bidwell of Connecticut and New York.
He struck out on his own at a young age and began farming.
Henry was born and raised in Ohio and there married Hannah Emeline Allen, the daughter of Alvin Allen and Mary Catherine (Burgdoff) Allen both of New York. They married on January 4, 1854 in Munson Township, Geauga County, Ohio.
Shortly after they left for Michigan and there had two sons; Harvey S. and George H. Bidwell.
In 1874 Emma died Grand Ledge. Henry then married her younger sister, Helen and they had two children; Emma E. and Riley K. Bidwell.
