Marion Estes Hill, age 91, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Damascus, Va., on Aug. 14, 1917, to the late Emory Victor Hill and Margaret Gollehon Hill. He worked at Bristol Tennessee Electric System for 34 years. He was a member of Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He was a member of Steeles Creek Golf Course and the IBEW. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as harbor defense. Mr. Hill resided in Bristol for 20 years and Blountville, Tenn., for 42 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Bobbye Joyce Hutchens, Marion "Candy" Stieler, and Bonnie Lee Wood; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Raleigh and Ruth Coltrane.
The funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, in Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lloyd Jones officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery, with military rites by Bristol VFW Honor Guard and the Tennessee Army National Guard. Pallbearers were Chuck Stieler, Mike Wood, Mike Jones, Mike Adams, Doug Ledbetter and Scott Lawson. Honorary pallbearer was Gene Phipps. Memorials may be made to Addilyn Memorial United Methodist Church, 3225 Avoca Road, Bristol, TN 37620; or the American Heart Association , P.O. Box 40941, Atlanta, GA 30384.
