CLIFFORD D. FESSENDEN
Clifford D. Fessenden, 76, died suddenly Saturday noon at his home in Candor. Even though he had been in failing health for some time, he had not been seriously ill until a very few days before his death.
Born in Candor on January 12, 1879, he was the son of David Sheppard Fessenden and Ella Smith Fessenden.
He attended school in Candor, and later worked for a time in New Jersey. He returned to Candor 45 years ago, and for many years was employed at the Candor Glove factory. At the time of his death, he was treasurer of the Candor Central School Board, and a town assessor. He had also been a former town welfare commissioner.
Mr. Fessenden is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Fessenden of Candor; a daughter, Mrs. Allan Segal of Lynn, Mass.; three sons, Bruce of Candor, Clifford, Jr. of Plastic City, Calif., and C.G.M. Foster Fessenden of the U.S. Navy at Washington, D.C.; one sister, Mrs. S.S. Gridley of Candor; and four grandsons.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Miller's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Hill officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
