Henry was a son of James H. Canary & Elizabeth A. Mudd of Washington County, KY. He married about 1885 and resided in Jacksonville, Florida for a few years. He and his wife Eleanor "Nora" moved back to Kentucky and settled in Uniontown. They were counted in June in the 1900 Census with their three sons. By 1910, they had relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. He and Nora divorced shortly thereafter. John died at the city hospital in 1928 due to chronic nephritis.
