Jimmie Jewell Brister, 74, of McComb, died of heart failureMay 16, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at CatchingsFuneral Home in McComb. Graveside services are 4 p.m. Thursdayat Greer Cemetery in Lawrence County, with the Rev. Ricky Kennedyofficiating.


Mr. Brister was born July 23, 1925, in Lawrence County. Hewas the son of P. Buell Brister and Rosa Alexander Brister.


He was a retired automobile mechanic and a member of JayessBaptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, anda member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4889 in Monticello.


Mr. Brister was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother,Marie Williams Brister; and two brothers, Willie Marcus Bristerand Fred J. Brister.


Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mildred Dunaway Bristerof McComb; one son, Hugh Paul Brister of McComb; three brothers,Charles Ray Brister of Jayess, Rufus Leroy Brister of Port Arthur,Texas, and Bobby Earl Pennington of Baker, La.; two sisters, PaulineCoon and Pearline Cline, both of Jayess; three grandsons, JoshuaBrister, Jared Brister and Jason Brister and his wife Hope Brister;and one great-grandson, Justin Brister.


Pallbearers will be Joshua Brister, Jared Brister, Jason Brister,George Dennis, Bobby McGehee and Alcus Brister.
