Fred J. Brister, 78, of Jayess, died Aug. 21, 1999, at CovingtonCounty Hospital in Collins.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Apostolic Church ofMcComb. The Rev. J.S. Hancock officiated. Burial was in New BethelCemetery in Enon. Hartman Funeral Home of McComb was in chargeof arrangements.


Mr. Brister was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Walthall County. He wasthe son of Buel Brister and Rosa Alexander Brister.


He was a retired construction worker with T.L. Wallace Co.,and was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church.


He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, wherehe served in the South Pacific. He was a Purple Heart recipient.He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Monticelloand the American Legion in Tylertown.


His family said he was a devoted family man and was especiallyfond of his great-granddaughter, Chastity.


Mr. Brister was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother,Marie Williams Brister; one daughter, Shirley Brewer; one great-granddaughter,Freda Ma-rie Brewer; and one brother, Marcus Brister.


Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen Marie ThompsonBrister of Jayess; one son, Fred Neal Huber of Vicksburg; twodaughters and sons-in-law, Rose B. and Fosee Livingston of Laurel,and Kathy and Robert D. Reid of Jayess; three brothers, CharlesRay Brister of Jayess, Rufus Brister of Port Arthur, Texas, andJewel Brister of McComb; one stepbrother, Pete Pennington of Baker,La.; two sisters, Pauline Coon and Pearline Cline, both of Jayess;nine grandchildren, Lester, Kim and Tory Huber, Kim, Kelly, Robby,Kerri and Susanne Reid, and Dewayne Livingston; one great-granddaughter,Chastity Reid; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives andfriends.


Pallbearers were Marshall Hancock, Jerod Brister, Robbie Reid,Walter Catorie, the Rev. George Hancock, Willie Thomas and RussellCline.
