Married 60 Years

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brigham, Wild Rose, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Monday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. F. V. Merryfield of the same village.
Joseph Brigham was born near Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in 1851, and at the age of four moved with his parents to the town of Springwater, Waushara county, in which county he has spent practically all of his live. Ruby Adelaide (Addie) Persons, his wife, was born in Milwaukee in 1855. When she was four years of age her parents moved to the town of Bloomfield, Waushara county, and when she was 16, to the town of Springwater. Mr. and Mrs. Brigham were married January 1, 1873, and except for two or three periods of one to three years each, have resided in Waushara county. For four years after their marriage they lived on the farm of Mr. Brigham's father, after which they removed to their own farm in the town of Rose, where they spent the next 34 years of their married lives. For the past few years they have made their home in the village of Wild Rose.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Brigham became members of the Methodist church at Parfreyville during their childhood. After settling on their farm northeast of Wild Rose, they transferred their church membership to the Methodist church of that place. They were among the pioneers who worked and sacrificed to build the first Methodist church at Wild Rose, and have always been active in its work. During the periods of residence elsewhere, they always took an active part in the work of the church in the community where they lived.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Brigham, all of whom live nearby and were with them for their anniversary. They are:

*Ruth (Mrs. Sam Pinkerton), of Crystal Lake;
*Josephine (Mrs. W. I. Williams), of Wild Rose;
*Edith (Mrs. F. V. Merryfield), of Wild Rose, and
*Winfield Brigham of Fond du Lac.

There was also an adopted son,
*Ira, who died some 30 years ago,

and a foster son,
*Willie Thomas Brigham of Fond du Lac.

There are 16 living grandchildren and nine living great-grandchildren.
The entire family and a number of old-time friends were present at the F.V. Merryfield home Monday, January 2, to help them celebrate and to be with them in their day of rejoicing. In the afternoon crowds of friends came in long enough to offer congratulations and to wish them many more happy years.
Two of Mr. Brigham's four brothers have also celebrated their 60th wedding anniversaries, the late Nelson Brigham and wife of Waupaca, some two years before his death seven years ago; and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Brigham of Arpin, last March.
