Girard Township; Asa B. SHARPE Sr., 81, of Girard Township, Mich., died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater.

He was born Oct. 21, 1918 in Eaton Rapids to William Henry and Verna Viola (STEVENS) SHARPE. For 40 years Mr. SHARPE owned and operated Sharpe Heating and Air Conditioning, retiring in 1995.

At age 13 he became self supporting, working as a live in farmer's helper. His work brought him to Coldwater.

During WW II he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre (The Philippines, New Guinea, Australia and Papua), earning many ribbons and four battle stars. After his honorary discharge, he farmed several years then attended training school for furnace installation and repair. In 1963 he started the Sharpe Heating Company until he retired in 1995. In addition to his family, he enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and woodworking. On August 14, 1965 he married Mildred JACKSON SCHULL.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepson, Charles SCHULL Jr. in 1978; a grandson, Jack ROSS Jr. in 1995; five sisters, Inez WENDORF, Verdalia and Geraldine SHARPE, and Viola and Alice CALLAHAN; and two brothers, Henry and Robert SHARPE.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred; a son, Asa B. (Cherie) SHARPE Jr. of Osseo; three stepsons, Tom E. SCHULL of Coldwater, Larry D. (Diane) SCHULL and John M. (Ellen) SCHULL, both of Sturgis; two stepdaughters, Judy (Jerry) SABAITIS of Coldwater and Janice (Jack) ROSS of Sturgis; a sister, Maggie BARTON of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the Dutcher Funeral Home, Coldwater, where services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Pastor David Nye of the Burlington Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Colon, Mich., with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #52 of Coldwater.

Memorials may be directed to the National World War II Monument in Washington, D.C. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
