Ruth Castle Burchett went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2012.

Ruth's memorial service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Sanders Funeral Home's Chapel, 1420 Main Street, Lubbock 79401, with John Ballard officiating.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church's building fund, 2201 Broadway, Lubbock 79401 or Phoenix Home Care Service, 2302 34th Street, Lubbock 79411.

Ruth was born in Lubbock on Independence Day, the Fourth of July, 1922, attended Lubbock public schools, and was a proud Lubbock High Westerner and Texas Tech Red Raider, receiving her bachelors and masters degrees from Tech. "Tincie", as she was known to her family, married the love of her life, H.G. Burchett, on March 5, 1944. They did not have children but helped raise Tincie's niece, Jacky Castle, who they considered to be their daughter. Jacky's son, Jeff, and daughter, Sally, were Tincie's and H.G.'s "grandkids". Jacky is the daughter of Robert Castle, Tincie's beloved brother, who gave her the name "Tincie" and was also born in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High and Texas Tech.

Ruth taught several languages and was later a speech pathologist in the Lubbock public schools for 35 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock and a member and President of the Alpha Sigma chapter of
Delta Kappa Gamma (honorary society of outstanding women educators). She loved the performing arts and attended many orchestra and stage productions at Texas Tech and the Lubbock Memorial Auditorium.

Predeceased by her husband, H.G. Burchett, her brother, Robert Castle of Bakersfield, CA, and her other siblings.

Survived by her niece, Jacquelyn Castle Spears, and her husband, Robert F. Spears, of Dallas; her nephew, Stephen C. Castle, and his wife, Ellen Castle, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; her great nieces and nephews: Jeffrey Castle Spears and his wife, Maria Spears, and their daughters, Page and Georgia Spears, all of San Francisco; Sally Spears White and her husband, Brian D. White, and their son and daughter, Brooks and Morgan White, all of Wichita, Kansas; Robert and Gracie Castle of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and several other great nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Ruth's dear friend, Anita Webb, the caregivers at Phoenix Home Care Service and the doctors and nurses at Covenant Medical Center's Palliative Care Unit for their devotion to and loving care of Ruth.
