The dreaded disease of diphtheria caused the death Thursday evening of little Vilas, the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fischer of Rockland. Medical aid was called in too late to save the child's life, the doctors not having been summoned until Thursday forenoon. Antitoxin was used but the disease had gained too much headway and the boy passed away about 9 pm. Vilas was a bright, lovable child who will be sadly missed from the home circle and by his many little school friends, who with his teacher, were present Friday at his funeral. Rev. Detert officiated at the burial service. Every precaution has been taken to prevent the further spreading of the disease although many have been exposed at the Fischer home, the boy having been sick since Monday.
