It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Jack D. Kahlo on July 12, 2009 at his home in Rolling Hills Estates. He was born July 1, 1917 to Leo J. Kahlo and Agnes (Jimmy) Sharpe Kahlo in Defiance, Ohio. The woman of his dreams his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Agnes Kahlo preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Kahlo of Mendocino, CA and Deborah Kahlo; and son-in-law, Salvatore Longo of Hermosa Beach, CA; grandchildren, Tim Longo (Tracy) and Dani Longo; and great-grandchildren, Ruby and Hayden Longo.

His love of aviation had him living at the Whittier Airport in CA at age 15. He did odd jobs for free flying lessons. He received his pilot license at 17. His first job was with Northrop Aircraft and worked alongside Jack Northrop through various stages of aircraft development culminating in the Northrop XB-49 Flying Wing. He was very proud of that achievement.

In the mid 1950's he left Northrop to help his ill father run Kahlo Realty. Leo passed away in 1958 and Jack ran Kahlo Realty for over 45 years. Jack was a past president of the California Realty Board. Jack was very active with the community of Palos Verdes Estates.

Jack was an avid tennis player and learned tennis at the Malaga Cove School in P.V.E. There were few tennis courts in the area so he went on campaign to start the Palos Verdes Tennis Club. He is a Founding Father of The Club. He played tennis up to his mid 80's.

In the 1970's Jack & Marj bought a vacation condo in Oxnard, CA which has a beautiful view of the marina. Jack soon got interested in the boats across the way. Now there was a new passion for Jack to learn boating then along came Sweet Agnes a 42-foot trawler. Jack joined the SCCA and became a devoted Log racer for many years and was still racing in his 90's. He was Commodore of the SCCA in the 80's and a member of the Hollywood Yacht Club. Jack and Marj made many new friends with his new passion and had many a great times on Sweet Agnes. Jack had many passions, aviation, log racing, tennis, traveling and at the age of 89 he wrote a book about his aviator days titled My Path Through Life.

He was a wonderful father and husband and a very generous man and a wonderful storyteller about his path through life and was always a gentlemen. Many loved him. We will miss him very much.
