Mr. & Mrs. Wallace Answer Last Call

Mr. & Mrs. Bob Wallace, who were injured by being struck by a train on 31 July at a crossing north of Moorewood, died at the hospital at Elk City, Mr. Wallace dying 2 August and Mrs. Wallace dying 4 August. They were prominent citizens of our county and lived just a few miles south of Leedy. Their death was a tragic one and a shock to our community. Seven children survive their parents: Mrs. Frank Foster of Gage; Mrs. Ray Graham of Acampo, Calif., Mrs. Leon Pargin of Dyke, Colo.; Mrs. Jim Hancock of Hammond; John Wallace of Durango, Colo.; Clyde and Edward of Leedy.

Robert Wallace was born at Booneville, Miss., 17 November 1872 and died at Elk City 2 August 1929 aged 57 years, 8 months and 15 days. Mr. Wallace had been in Oklahoma for 30 years; when he was 20 years old he joined the Baptist church in Texas. While he and Mrs. Wallace were on their last trip Mr. Wallace had a dream depicting to an accurate degree the tragedy that was so soon to take their lives. Mr. Wallace was heard to remark that he was ready to die. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity. For 36 years he and Mrs. Wallace had walked down the stream of time together.

Mrs. Bell Wallace, wife of Robert Wallace, was born 22 April 1872 and died 4 August 1929, aged 57 years, 4 months and 8 days. Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Baptist church since she was 15 years of age and at the time of her death was a member of the Leedy Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Leedy Baptist church Tuesday afternoon., Where a large congregation had gathered to pay their respects. The sermon was preached by Bro. L.E. Marvin, pastor of the church from the text I Samuel 20:3 "There is but a step between me and death". The Mason then took charge and the last rites were performed at the Leedy Cemetery.
