Daughter of Harry & Ruby (Pugh) Gillespie, she graduated from Grinnell high school. She married Basil Arment on September 16, 1926, at Tama. They removed to Washington state for two years before returning to Iowa. She was survived by her husband; two sons, Gerald and Duane, both of Grinnell; daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Bailey of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Krumm of Gibson, Ada Tychsen of Marshalltown, Doris Phipps of Port Atkins; brother, Ithel Gillespie of Newburg; and father, Harry Gillespie of Port Angeles, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucie Belle Lawson, and her mother.
