BENSON, KATIE—Mrs. Katie Benson passed away at Roselawn Home in Geneva, Thursday, August 23, 1956, aged 94 years, 9 months and 14 days. She had been in feeble health for some time.

Mrs. Benson, one of the 11 children of William and Christina Young, was born in Illinois, November 9, 1861. When she was a very small child, the Young family located on a farm in Nemaha county, Nebraska. January 11, 1878, she and William Benson were united in marriage at the close of the morning church service, in the presence of the congregation, in their home church in Nemaha county.

In 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Benson located on a farm two miles south of Geneva, Neb. Two years later they left the farm and located in Geneva, where Mr. Benson in a semi-retired relation handled real estate. He passed to his eternal reward March 7, 1924.

Four years ago Mrs. Benson became a guest at Roselawn home. Her relation to the guests of this home was happy and congenial. Mrs. Bobbitt hears testimony to Mrs. Benson’s happy way of making friends, and enjoying her companions and associations; and says that she will be greatly missed by everyone at Roselawn.

William and Katie Benson were the parents of four children, Mrs. Nora Thompson and Mrs. Winifred Bumgardner, both deceased; Mrs. Zelma Banks of Lincoln and Mrs. Lola Campbell of Great Falls, Mont. She is also survived by one brother, S. B. Young of Brock, Neb., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Harrison of Fremont and Mrs. Elsie Brown of St. Petersburg, Fla. Eight brothers and sisters preceded her in death. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

William and Katie Benson transferred their membership to the Methodist church of Geneva upon locating here in 1902. She was a member of this church 54 years.

Services were held at the Kritner-Ashby funeral home, Saturday afternoon, August 25, at 2 o’clock. Mrs. James Hanlin sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “In the Garden.” Mrs. Oscar Nelson provided accompaniment at the piano. Dr. F. E. Pfoutz, minister of the First Methodist church, gave the tribute, basing his remarks on Psalms 90, verses 1 and 17. The pallbearers were Roy Miller, R. A. Bumgardner, W. A. Bumgardner, B. Banks, R. Jensen and J. Krause. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
