She graduated with honors from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1929 and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, where she held numerous offices and committee memberships, and was a lifetime member of the Shelby Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
