Franklin E. Dove, 74, of Shelbyville, died early Wednesday morning, November 17, 2010, at his home in Shelbyville, Illinois.

Frank was born on February 1, 1936 to Robert and Elizabeth Heil Dove.

He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1954, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Northwestern Law School. After university, he was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force serving in the United States and North Africa.

Frank joined his father in the practice of law in Shelbyville with Dove & Dove, Attorneys at Law. He served as a law clerk for Judge E. C. Eberspacher of the Fifth District Appellate Court of Illinois from 1967 until 1968; as the City Attorney for the City of Shelbyville from 1972 until 1990 and from 1999 to 2003; as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois for condemnation and land acquisition proceedings from 1985 to 1993; and as the attorney for the Shelby County Public Building Commission from 1985. In 1969-1970,

Frank served as a delegate to the Illinois Constitutional Convention. In addition to practicing law, Frank served on the Shelby County State Bank Board of Directors from 1973 and was its Chairman from 1980 to present. He was an Eagle Scout and was active with the local Troop 51 Boy Scouts, serving as scout master from 1974 to 1981. He also served on the United Methodist Church Board of Trustees.

Frank married Meredith Sayle in Greenville, Ohio on January 7, 1961. Meredith passed away on June 18, 2005.

He is survived by his son, Andrew F. Dove and wife Limin of Hong Kong; daughter, Ashley G. Dove of Durango, Colorado; grandson, Theodore F. Dove of Hong Kong; brothers, Michael T. Dove and Ann of Shelbyville, David R. Dove and wife Janet of Scottsdale, Arizona and T. Clark Dove and wife Jamie of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Susan E. Mark and husband Ron of Phoenix, Arizona; and brother-in-law, John G. Sayle and wife Sally of East Liverpool, Ohio.

Frank was an adventurous traveler who loved exploring the world and its cultures with his family. His family deeply mourns his passing and will always remember his love and kindness.

Memorial services were held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating.

Visitation was Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Building Fund or the Organ Restoration Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville or Shelbyville Troop 51 Boy Scouts
