Obituary - The Parsons Sun, September 29,1976

Death came shortly before 6 a.m. to Wilbur L. Bolander, 62, a teacher in Parsons schools for more than 25 years.

Bolander died in St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City where he had been a patient for the past several days. He had been in failing health for more than a year and seriosly ill most of the summer.

He retired this year as auto mechanics instuctor at Parsons High School. The Bolander home is at 2214 Crawford.

He was graduated from Parsons High School in 1932 and from Parsons Junior College. He recieved his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Kansas State College of Pittsburg.

He lived in Lebanon, Mo. six years, returning to Parsons in 1946 to begin his teaching career here.

Bolander was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and of various teacher organizations.

He and Hazel F. McPeak were married Feb. 1 1935. She died march 3, 1960. He and Mrs. Elizabeth Proffitt Wallace were married in 1961.

Mrs. Bolander survives, at the home. Among other survivors are three sons, Donald D. of Caldwell, Richard W. of Flint, Mich and Robert L. of Sprigfield, Mo. four step sons, Terry Wallace of the home, Ray Wallace of Parsons, Jack Wallace of Chanute and Robert Wallace of New Orleans; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Widmer of Sidney, Australia; 10 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren.

His mother, Mrs. W,H. Bolander of Parsons; two brothers. Paul A. of Parsons and Alfred M. of Wichita, three sisters, Mrs. Verlyn (Mildred) White of Parsons, Mrs. Wilma L. Chace of Salina and Mrs Bill (Alfreda) Brown of Humboldt.

An infant son preceeded him in death.

(Note: though the obit says he returned to Parsons, from Lebanon, Mo in 1946, this move was actually made in 1949)

W. L. Bolander was a long time resident of Parsons, KS. He worked for many years in the Parsons school system as an Auto Mechanics Teacher. He passed away, in the hospital in Kansas City, after losing a long hard fought battle to cancer. He is buried with his first wife Hazel and infant son William.
